I'm reading on super ikontas this morning and found myself in a total state of ignorance with regard of a new, long desired laser rangefinder and a mechanical rangefinder I bought at a flea market month's back,

Together they meet my demand for distance and close up finding for cameras with zero rangefinder capacity.

At 67 im too young to be forgetting this stuff but after a lifetime of photography, these 'brain farts' make me wonder just how justified buying new kit for my kit is or if I should just pass having a valad interest in making new photographs.

Anyone else having doubt about making images with new gear?

You shouldn't stop photography just because of that. There are mental tricks that can help you remember things, I think one of the best things you could do is spend time carefully organizing your gear in a way that makes sense, setting aside or selling anything you don't use, and simplifying anything to which the complication isn't helping you.
