not sure how well known this person was but he made a big impression on me
through his words +works here on apug and hs website i was wondering if anyone else remembers him ?

he thought of himself sort of a travel photographer, and worked a lot of the time in b/w. russian ( i think ? ) or at least
from that part of the universe, and he had a photography manifesto on his website that was very zen, calming and funny.
i kind of alluded to it earlier ... he had a list of things about photography and one of them was
worded something like " never count time in long exposures by counting seconds, count other things instead, like 2 sips of vodka &c .."

does anyone remember him ?
i was searching through all my olde bookmarked websties and i've changed computers a few times since then
and some didn't make it ... i want to say his name was something like debrovsky or something like that, but i have an awful memory ...

thanks for your collective memory !

Didn't Brassaï measure long exposures by smoking a cigarette? I believe someone here on APUG said that.

This was very common in the early days of the 20th century when photographic plates were very slow, some exposure were three cigarettes or more

It's worth going to see the 12 principles of large format photography at that site. The last one is especially good.
and make sure to scroll down far enough to see the steps.
