What is a disk camera?

A range of cameras taking a disc-shaped sheet film, which is rotated to allow 8x11mm exposures positioned on it in a circular manner. Thus allowing to built a very flat camera. Quite popular for a short time.

A system designed by Kodak and taken over by a few other manufacturers. Only two manufacturers made film.

But compared to a Minox EC (which takes the same image size) it is huge.

(But it got an inbuilt flashlight.)

I was bidding for Rollei E27 flash(cheeky but extremely long recycling times) esp., for the sync-cable with Rollei lock and won that for Euro 2.50 but the seller put this camera along with two un-used camera straps, EOS body and lens caps, maps of the town and two post-cards.

All disc cameras are motorized. Most with inbuilt, non-exchangable batteries, others with standard ones.

The sound you hear most probably comes from the advance mechanism running without a disk inserted. (But I would have to check that with my samples.)

Just curious, what to do in-case batteries are depleted, other than throwing in a bin.

With films more scarce than those cameras that may be an academic question.

On my agenda there is that project to exchange the incorporated battery. I did not find time for it yet. At first glance there seems no way to open the camera without harm. Though there might be a trick to it.


I do not know whether Kodak offered a re-furbishing in that case. Information on these cameras is scarce.
(I would appreciate if someone could make me wiser about Kodak having offered such service.)

I find it very surprising that anyone has disc film still. I dropped mine in a lake....oops.... in 1985 or so.

I even got a underwater casing for this camera. I don't know what more accessories were made.
