Foot switch and f stop timer for DeVere 504 Dichromat and some compatibility issues

Hello,

I recently acquired a new style DeVere 504 enlarger chassis with the older style dichromat head and Electronic Timer.

The head doesn't have the guides necessary to properly attach the head to the negative stage back plate she so right now I just have the head sitting on top of the chassis.

How bad of an idea is this and are there any suggestions to make it more secure? Or should I probably just acquire a compatible head?

Are there other timers that are compatible with this head? I'm interested in an f stop timer as well as a footswitch. Could I use an Rh Designs timer with this head?

Would this foot switch be compatible with the Electronic timer? If so where does it plug in? http://store.khbphotografix.com/Footswitch-for-De-Vere-Universal-Timer.html

I've been poking around for answers online but haven't been able to find any clear info so any help is much appreciated.

Speak to any or all of KHB Photographix, Odyssey Sales (De Vere's successor) and Secondhand Darkroom Supplies and they should be able to supply the runners and other components needed to fix the head to the chassis - all the 504 heads and all the 504 chassis are cross compatible, you just need a few slightly different components.

Regarding timers, as long as they can be wired to the diagram in the manual, they will work. Secondhand Darkroom (who owns the RH Designs label now) can sell you various timers, if for whatever reason the De Vere timer is failing.

Thanks so much for your reply. I did speak to Odyssey whoseems to have the parts I would need but after sending them photos they said the parts are not compatible as is and I would need to drill holes in the proper place to attach the guides to the back of the light source. I'm willing to do that but need some guidance as to where exactly the holes need to be placed.

Wouldn't it make the most sense then to order the parts and then drill the holes? I assume it'll be more or less self-explanatory once you have the items in hand and try to fit them onto the enlarger.

Yes - if it's the mix of chassis/ head I think it is, there are rollers on the backplate of the neg stage that the head runs against and the spacing of the two guides can be judged from there. If it's a mkiii head, it's basically sheet metal & the relevant areas are reasonably easily reached internally too.
