Just dev. my 1st. test sheet film of Retro 320.
R09 at 27c / 1-25 / 5min
the test was for Hyper-focus f/64 30cm to infinity.

well it came out very grainy !! the contrast is flat !!??
so If anyone has worked with this film !??????????????????

That film does not build density or contrast the way a 'normal' film does.
@Andrew O'Neill did a very informative video post about it.
I have been trying to beat that film into submission for a while, using Rodinal and D-19, now using HC-110 Dilution B for a 20 minute development time.

I worked films with paper developers to get a rich tones and smooth - light.
but this is just flat ??
I will look to @Andrew O'Neill ...

Have you tried paper developers like Ilford PQ Universal?

Hi joho,

I made a video recently: https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/foma-retropan-320-soft.216564/

It's pretty flat in conventional developers. I've got a box of 4x5 that I'll be running through the ringer when I get back from my trip in the next couple of weeks. I'll be using a couple of developers to compare... D19 and Retropan Special Developer ( the recommended developer).

Hi, @blee1996 , thanks for the recommendation.
I am entrenched with HC110B for continuity with a 20-sheet project, and have 4 sheets left to process.
I have 7 sheets left in the box, and plan on going "full-on medieval" with those...
I recently acquired some A/B Litho developer.
That should show it who is boss!

Hi, @Andrew O'Neill just had a look at your clip about 320. thanks.
it would seem as an orange-red filter a bit odd - any way, here is my 1st test & q-d scan look---
light is straight in to the setting sun with clouds - two different scans

ere is my 1st test & q-d scan
It would help to see the negative as it appears to the naked eye, held against a backlight.
I agree the scans look flat and not so great.

That's what this film is known for, but I don't think you're convicted to the kind of results you show above.

@koraks this is a first time use...
... the whole test is at extremes !! I used at a spear of the moment, my neighbors balcony for the backdrop of a setting sun set with clouds, the camera is a D-I-Y, that don`t focus __only
Hyper-focus set from 1,5 meters so at F/64 the 65 super angulon [focus] 40cm till apeiron.
and for the cherry on top developed in R09 at 27c / 1-25 / 5min with continuous agitations !!!!!!!!
Sooooo!!!
F/64 will smooth out the contrast a bit - taken straight in to the setting sun is that not bad enough !?
then R09 --[R09 ??? nothing better ????] and at 28-27 Celsius !!! [that was for summer time]
Also one sheet 9x12 in 650cc at continues agitation -[Note if there where six sheets ] that would make a small difference.

@Andrew O'Neill clip about 320, gave me insight on the film as to good standard to compere !

what was not expected is the orange filter look !!! [and a dark orange one too]

Here is a view of the neg..

it is over a bit ...

a photo paper print would say alot !!

I used D-76. I'll be starting a test using a DIY developer, such as D-19 and its recommended commercial developer, Retro Special.

Well here is the out come with RETROPAN 320
D-I-Y camera [9x12cm] exposed at 1600asa
used Orange filter 65mm Super Angulon 1/4s - f/45+
R09 1:75 &&& 150cc D-23 stock *** /// [*** D-23 is modified ]
at 26C stand 25min //
stand wash bath 10 min.//
fix ...
So at the 3d test I think I have a good idea about this film.

@Andrew O'Neill the work on your tube was an eye opener .. have to find that podcast.
