Hi,

after some reading here and there, and because they are so inexpensive, I am going to order a few 35mm rolls of Fomapan 100, 200 and 400, and I will try them at different speeds.

I have just started this year to develop my film and I normally use Xtol to all films but I was told that Adox ATM 49 was a very good developer to use with Foma films, giving them the real box speed.

Do you have any experience with Foma films and Xtol/Adox ATM29 developers?

Shoud I stick with the Xtol, that I know better?

Best regards,

Thanks in advance.

Nuno.

Dear Nuno,

Searching for the magic developer is something we all seem to go through. There is no magic, but it is great fun looking. For a while at least.

I've developed Fomapan 200 and 400 in XTOL with good results, but I've not done any formal speed testing. I have done some speed testing of Fomapan 400 in PC-Glycol and found that I got either 320 or 400 as the best speed (my camera's meter gave me the same settings for both film speeds). As XTOL has a reputation for a slight speed boost (compared to, say, D-76), there's a good chance you'll get box speed, or at least close to it, with Foma films in XTOL.
