Fomapan R exposure.

This topic was touched upon 4 months ago but remained unresolved . The film is rated at ISO 100 but some were suggesting a rating of 50, one even urged a 160 setting. I have just exposed and processed a film, rated at 100 and developed to the ml and second with Fomapan reversal kit. The outcome is disappointing. Very thin images even though I did some bracketing. Unexposed film has given me reasonable opacity and edge idents are clear, which would suggest an initial exposure problem, but as this is such a complicated process, it is difficult to identify at which stage the problem occured. Any experienced suggestions would be welcome.

That's true, but you should get satisfying results with the Foma kit, even though it isn't ideal. One should use a silver halide solvent, potassium dichromate instead of the permanganate and fresh developer for the second development. Nonetheless, the Foma kit is sufficient and capable of producing some nice slides if you do it right.

Yes, that's one side effect of the dreaded thing. You must be very careful not to agitate too aggressively. I haven't experienced any emulsion damage with Fomapan R but thanks for the suggestion.

Dichromate, on the other hand, hardens the emulsion. I can't wait to get my hands on some. So far I haven't managed to obtain any because of some idiotic environmental regulation.

I'm also looking for another film to make BW slides, mainly because Fomapan R isn't available in 120 rolls, and I would like to have finer grain in 35 mm format.

I´ve god good results at 100 ISO developed with foma chemistry. Used jobo CPP at slow rotation to develop films.

Several tried and true reversal processes have recently been posted to the Articles section of APUG. You might try one of these. Also be careful how you judge the transparencies. They are supposed to be projected, and the values look quite different than negatives.
