Fomapan 100 & Pyrocat-HD

Hi All:

I searched this forum for possible starting time/temp for this film/developer combo, and couldn't find much info. Can you help?

The only data for this film and Pyrocat-HD on the Massive Development Chart is for Foma 100 120 roll film which recommends normal dilution (1:1:100), ISO 100, and 13 mins at 21C. I will be processing Foma 100 sheet film in a Jobo Expert Drum and, because I live in the desert of the American southwest, it's difficult to keep chemistry at these low temps. For me, 75 - 80 degrees is certainly more doable; especially during the summer months.

Would you recommend simply shortening the development time to compensate for the higher processing temps, or go to a 2:2:100 dilution, or some combination of both? I would be printing on VC paper.

What are you planning to print it in? I soup my Fomapan 200 at 75f for 12 mins with Pyrocat HD 1:1:100, in a Jobo Expert drum, for Pt/Pd printing. You could cut this back to around 10 if you are only doing silver printing and want to print on grade 2 -2 1/2.

I think Scott is about right if you can develop at 75. You usually take off about 20% if you are using continuous development, but you usually add 20% for VC paper - so that comes out as a wash. I'd simply adjust for temperature and see what I got.

That's the first I've ever heard about that !!!!

Where did you get that idea from, it makes no difference whether you used graded paper or Variable Contrast/Multigrade type paper.

Sandy King has several posts on the subject of the effect of Pyrocat stain on VC papers - the 20% figure is his. The effect may or may not be the same with other staining developers.

This seems to vary depending on the film / paper combination. My own negs with Pyrocat HD print well on VC papers without increased development, but I've yet to test the Fomapan 100 & 200 / Pyrocat combination..

I would be printing on VC paper. Therefore, I think something in the 10 - 12 minute range at 75 degrees will probably get me in the park.

My own numbers for Fomapan 100 are
Pyrocat-HD 1+1+150 24 min with agitation every 8th minute at 20C (68F).

The negatives print well on graded paper (Fortezo) and on VC paper (PWT) with filtration (2.5-3)
