Fomapan 100 in Rodinal

I've just processed Fomapan 100, and it's massively over-developed. In the same tank was a roll of Lucky 100 which I regularly use in the same developer (Rodinal, semi-stand, 20C, 60mins), and it was normally developed. I checked the camera the Fomapan went through and the lens is stopping down correctly and speeds appear to run at the usual intervals. In fact, the Foma frames are darker than some Tri-X I recently tested in the same developer combo.

Is Fomapan faster than the 100 asa it's quoted at, or does it react to Rodinal type developers in an unusual way? Looking at the DigitalTruth chart after examining the negatives, even at high dilutions Fomapan 100 seems to require very short times in Rodinal. Any suggestions?

Over-developed is not so bad as under . What was the dilution: 1+100? I use Fomapan 100 in Rodinal semi stand, 60min and it it ok, little on the overdevelop side, but just a little (for me just right, I like negatives little fat ).

When you say semi-stand: that is one minute on start, 3-4 agitation on 30min and that is it? Or?

For semi-stand I do six slow inversions to begin, then two slow inversions every 20mins. It always worked for 100 asa films of various makes in the past without bromide drag or surges. Fomapan is the first 100asa film that has responded radically differently to Rodinal.

A question first: what dilution did you use?

I use Fomadon R09 1+100 stand 1hour and actually just developed today a roll of Fomapan 100 together with a F400 and both came out ok.
But, yes, F100 is more dense.
I like it!

My films were over-developed by a factor of at least two. So my current thinking is 1:200 for 1 hour, or 1:100 for 30 mins. I like my negatives just so, with solid blacks and clear whites and tones in between.

Fomapan 100 is very easy to overdevelop. Because I am not consistent with my development habits I have had the best luck with 100:1 rodinal for 1 hour, but I have been considering 1:125 or 1:150 since the 100:1 negatives are still pretty dense in the highlights.

Standing development is no different from standard developing in that you still need to do your testing with respect to how long you develop it for.

Fomapan films build density faster than any other film I know of. Especially the 100. Just develop the film for less time. This is a standard control that darkroom workers should know about, and exploit to get their negatives to suit their working methods.

Rodinal stand is good for shadow speed if you have step wedge...
And yes Foma is smigeon faster than 100 in hot soup like Microphen but Foma is not a long scale film in Microphen or Rodinal stand.

so meter carefully at 125 or 160 for zone 1.

If you are doing paid scenic Ilford or kodak better otherwise meter carefully.

Thanks for the help. I'm going for the same times in a more dilute solution for my next attempt. Foma 100 does seem to build density faster than any similar speed film in Rodinal type developer. I like the flatness of the film base compared to some, so I shall persevere!

The Forma films (120 and 35m, 100, 200 and 400) have the (this) same family trait in Microphen - actually ID68 - (as Rodinal) as far as I can tell.
I can burn highlights with 5222, Tx, Tmax, Delta400 or HP5 anyway so I'm tolerant and have not troubled to experiment further.

But if you find anything nice...
