Hi,

I have noticed that this film has arrived at Silverprint in the UK and is priced at half the rpice of FP4+ in that the box is the same price and has 50 rather than 25 sheets. That might interest some of you!

I have never tried this film, but hear rumours that it curls a lot in 120, but no adverse opinions for sheet film to my knowledge. I also have heard that it resembles APX100, which is one heck of a compliment.

Has anyone used this film in sheet sizes and can they comment. Are there Quality Control issues, as this is a show stopper for me?

At a pound a sheet it is almost as cheap as Ilford 5x4 film.....I am still going to suport Ilford come hell or high water but this would be welcome news if it is a reliable high quality film. I will never forget the entire pack of dodgy Maco up100 (aka Efke PL100) which ruined some nice frames beyond salvation.

Rgds

The Foma sheet film is coated on thicker base, than the 120 roll film, eg. no curl at all (I have used the 9x12cm version so far).

Btw. I didn't have any excessive curl issues even with the 120, but when drying any film, I put 1 or 2 clothes pegs on the bottom edge of the film too, all film types. Stretches the film and it dries flat.

No, no QC issues so far. I like the Foma films a lot. I develop in R09, dillutions from 1:20 to 1:60, one day I may go for 1:100 and stand development...

Foma film is very good, much better than it was in the past...they rectified a lot of their QC problems when they got serious about filling the void left by Agfa, Forte, etc. I shoot it in 35 & 120 and have no complaints whatsoever. There are plenty of threads on this site that have similar testimonials. For the price you're describing, it's definitely worth at least taking a shot on a box to play around with.

Foma 100

Foma 100 is a great film. I've used it in 120 a lot, never curls for me, plus 5x4 and now 8x10. I develop in APH09 at 1:25, used for exhibitions, lovely:smile:

I found (for salt printing demands, anyway) that Fomapan 200 5x7 was best rated at ISO 80.

I have 100 sheets of Arista Edu Ultra 100, which I understand is Fomapan, and I would appreciate any suggestions of starting point ISO ratings from those experienced with this promising film stock. If it has some resemblance to APX 100 I used to expose that at ISO 64 for silver gelatine (Ilford MG) printing.

Thanks - Ross

Ross, try EI 80 or EI 64, should work well. I really like it at 80, developed in R09 1+40 (but I still have to do my precise testing as only recently did I acquire the means and know-how to do it)...
