Recently got a Folmer Schwing 8x10 "field" view camera. Guess what, it doesn't take regular 8x10 film holders. The opening in the camera back is a little larger then standard holders. Does this camera use what is know as the Sterling holders? Were there many cameras that used this odd 8x10 holder and why would they do that?
Thanks!

During the early part of the 20th century there were several manufacturers of wooden LF cameras. Many made everything - cameras, holders, contact printing frames, and in some cases worked with a lens maker to have lenses made under their name. There was little standardization.

Yes, I have one too. It uses the 8X10 Sterling holders. The light trap being right up at the front edge of the holder and slightly larger than regular 8X10.
