just to confirm my theory re a fogged film.....a paterson without a central black spool is not light proof, is it?

I forgot the spool when loading...put reel/film in tank then went to lights, got spool...lights off to reload...

No, it is not.

The outer frames are probably OK, but the frames near the center will be toasted to various degrees.

This is a common error that people do. I hope it was nothing important! Next time keep your mind clear whilst loading so that you won't forget to do anything .
