Focusing screen brightness

Hello, I'm wondering what options there are for increasing the groundglass/focusing screen brightness on my Canon elan 7. I'm using s MF zeiss 35mm lens, and the screen is too dim, even @ f/2, at least for me.

The diopter is also a problem. Anyone have any good experiences with diopters for nearsighted folks?
