Those handicraft shops have plates of foam that you might use. Though of different material.

I have to agree, if owning a lot of most different cameras (collection) it is more useful to have plates of various thicknesses at hand ot strips of various sizes, than searching for custom kits that do not exist anyway.

I only use scissors, mousemat and double sided pressure sensitive tape, sometimes craft knife.

A good auto or builders store will have large sheets of foam with pressure sensitive backing.

The camera foam sellers will sell instructions which help if the old foam has disappeared, you need to record position for some cameras.

There is a supplier in England doing sheets. I cannot recall the exact name, but it's something like 'camera spares'. I found it online when looking for this material. They sell a selection pack of sheets of foam and felt.

One more vote for John Goodman. Not in the EU but he delivers promptly and his prices are very moderate. Just send him a mail and describe your problem. I live in Europe too and have ordered from him several times. You can reach him at mail JGood21967@aol.com.

His packages are sent using ordinary mail, and I have never paid any customs fees for it. It just arrives in my mailbox. (Contrary to packages with cameras and lenses etc from Japan, Hongkong and the US for which I have to pay heavy EU VAT.... ).

As I already said the question was about sheets not kits.

An alternative to foam sheets and probably obtainable locally would be wide foam strips as offered as adhesive tape.

Micro-tools carries different thicknesses by the sheet. They're international too.

Go to a hobby store where model railroads are sold. These modelers use a foam stripping about 2 inches wide underneath the train tacks. Makes perfect camera foam.

If you can find a craft store, look for self-adhesive foam sheets. You can buy an A4 size sheet probably for less than 3 euros. One sheet should be able to take care of about 20 to 25 cameras, depending on how closely you cut.

This might be sold near the colored paper. At least, it is in the U.S.

I can understand not wanting to spend US$10 per camera if you have a bunch of cameras that need to be done.

If you cannot find such a product, send me a PM.

For the door hinges I use foam from Micro Tools or an old mouse pad. For the strips along the door I use black Knitting yarn which I glue in using a contact cement (pliobond is the best). I use a squeeze bottle with a fine tip to apply the glue and wait until it becomes almost dry or tacky. The glue is squirted into the tracks which are the grooves into which the door closed. No need to apply glue to the yarn. Use glue sparingly. In 25yrs. of repairing cameras, I have yet to have to re-do alight seal job.
Let dry thoroughly or you can glue the door shut; then the fun begins...NOT.

As a side note:
Materials well known in the USA may not be found in Europe. There has been a process of equalization, but still, crossing borders, I find things in shops never seen in on the shelves at home.

Hi folks,
First a very large Thanks! for those who suggested me as a source. Comments or discussions like this never fail to generate messages to me asking for bulk foam. I can't sell it any longer. The piracy & fraud were just overwhelming and I'm tired of being my own detective. Anyone who has written instructions which can be used to make a product that can be sold and posted them for free on the web has already learned this lesson. Added to that, custom foam and adhesive...and I'm talking about the best in the world for use in a camera and not the inexpensive stuff anybody can find...cost over 4 times as much as they did before the tsunami and it isn't easy to import them today. Who agrees it is the best? You might see what Amateur Photographer thought in their 125th Anniversary Edition (I've been written up 3 other times in that magazine as well as Fotografare and others).

The light seal project is still intact and will remain that way for pre-cut kits only and of course the battery adapters (PX-13 type clone). Thanks again for all your support. Retirement has me going in several different directions now but fortunately all of them are interesting. It is going to be easier to contact me via email at jon_goodman@yahoo.com

Piling on... Jon Goodman is very easy to work with and his kits are of very high quality. I have bought several for different cameras. His instructions are top notch.
