FM3A nikon enquiry

Hallo there,

I have finally reached a point where I will, for the first time, have to take out the focusing screen on the nikon fm3a and clean it. But I am fearful of damaging the screen.
Are there any tips from people who done this before?
What should I look out for?

I would be most grateful for any suggestions.

I have only the original screen in my FM3a. As I recall, if you buy a spare screen, it comes in a box together with a little pair of tweezers, which grip the screen securely without scratching. It may be possible to find the tweezers separately. The tweezers are plastic - regular metal medical tweezers are not suitable!

The only way I would clean a focus screen is with a very soft brush and compressed air.

It's very easy to do - although I have only done it on the F3 and the FE2. The latter closely aproximates the FM3a. Just grab the small lever and pull it away from th body. The screen should drop down on the mirror. Even without a tweezer, it's safe to handle the screen by the protruding tab. Since the tab is not part of the image area - scratches on it don't matter. Use a very soft brush or a blower to clean it.
