I know, I know, look before you buy but it was a nice looking lens that had a camera included. Didnt know the camera body lacked a battery compartment cap.

Been trying to find one, but the only places that claim to have them are completely fraudulent. Is there a unknown manner to make a replacement from something else?

there is a unique taper to the thread going by the photos i have seen of the actual replacment cap from Nikon ie FM10.

I was starting to think electrical tape to make the battery stack held together and thick enough to not wiggle around, and then perhaps tinfoil to create the bottom connection for the power, and then some genuine non conductive plastic or rubber held in with more electrical tape

you know someone with a lathe?

Microtools out in California has been stocking some third party parts. and the Vast Sino-cloning industry has been known to turn up repro parts. other than that, the clssic method is to start with several identical broken cameras and try to make one out of them.

Curt Fargo's Microtools web site is at https://www.micro-tools.com/

OK, I could not resist looking around. These folks seem to have collected battery covers off Junk Cameras.

bad news is that they don't show any in stock for an FM-10, but it might not hurt to ask, they are showing prices in CDN$ so the USD price would be about 75% of that shown.

Of no help but what you're looking for is "Nikon FAA31051-A40 Battery Cover". I've bought them in the past direct from Nikon but last time I tried I was told they were unavailable. Other sources I was previously aware of are also showing as out of stock. I'm sure someone would be able to manufacture them and should be economic as they are used on many different cameras including Contax and Yashica which is why I need them.

That's a great resource. I've never heard of them. The funny thing is that they list some caps for different cameras that are exactly the same or interchangeable -- and on top of that they list some in-stock, while others are out-of-stock.
