Flying with Portra 800

Can I fly with Portra 800 in my carry on bag? I am concerned about damage from X-rays, and I don't want to have to request a hand inspection.

Well, you sure don't want it to go in your checked baggage. Those machines are MUCH more powerful.

I've had zero issues with film going through the carry on scanners- even with Tri-X I've pushed to 1600

As long as it's one trip (2 checks or so) and not, say, a dozen, you should be fine.

I've shot some Portra 800 I carried around on several trips before shooting it and it was fine, going through the hand-luggage scanner. DO NOT PUT IN CHECKED BAGGAGE. Your film will be damaged and you will cry.

never check your film. disaster waiting to happen. carry it on and ask for a hand inspection at security. in the US they have to give it if you ask. I would for 800 but 400 or slower, just put it thru the small xray and be done with it

As others say....perfectly safe in your carry on bag. Not so in checked luggage.

I've flown with Delta 3200 which I pushed to 6400 and had no issues, that particular film went through 5 airports if my memory serves.
