Hello all,

B&H Photo now has all four of our FT-series ball heads (CB-38FT, CB-43FT, CB-48FT, and CB-58FT) available with an Arca-type clamp.
This was previously available only by buying the items separately; now they are available as a separate catalogue item.
There seemed to be enough demand for an Arca clamp from people who had already invested in Arca-style plates, and wanted to try out an FLM ball head.
The price of the ball head and clamp is slightly less than if buying them separately.

Here are the links, please contact me with any questions; thank you!

Also, I'm not sure I understand ball heads, so how does the "geared" part work?

Also, it has a plate but looks like it's not a "quick" plate but a sort of screw in type?

I know my current head is very old, but one of the things I like about it is that as I placed the camera onto the head, the locking mechanism automatically locks the camera so I don't have to worry about it falling off as I'm trying to fiddle with locking it down.

The brass pin is depressed by the plate on the camera and locks closed, it also has a double action unlocking design so you can't accidentally unlock the release.

Can you explain why these plates are more popular?

The Arca-type clamps are more popular as "Arca-compatible" has become a kind of standard among quick-release clamp and plate users.
We do offer our own QR sets, the QRP-series, and like yours, they attach from the top, then click in securely; they open and close with a lever.
Personally, I prefer those, but the QRP clamps are not Arca-compatible.
The SRB clamps offered with the ball heads in the links above are Arca-compatible, so anyone who has already invested in Arca-type plates would not have to buy another set of plates to accommodate this clamp.
And yes, it's a screw-in type; it is precision-built and guaranteed for 10 years, like all of our products.
