Flickr Downsizing free accounts

I received an email from Flickr today notifying of upcoming changes. Free accounts will be limited to 50 photos.

Free accounts will be limited to 50 non-public photos.

And some NSFW restrictions as well, you now need a paid account for that sort of content. If one ignores explicit pornographic images it becomes painfully obvious that tasteful art and social media do not go well together. Stupid business driven prudishness!

Wondering how Flickr is doing from a business point of view.

50 non- public photos..... so that means absolutely 0 public photos without a paid account. They can go suck an egg. I was kinda hoping to utilize it more in the future. Maybe if I start making some money from my photos again someday.

No, it means the same 1000 limit for public photos, but only 50 for non-public.
In other words you need to pay if you:
1) use flickr to share more than 50 photos privately;
2) use flickr to share NSFW photos; or
3) use flickr to share more than 1000 photos publicly.
This means that photographers who use flickr to privately share portrait or wedding proofs with their clients, or other businesses who use flickr to privately share work with clients, will have to pay up.
It also means that if you are in charge of privately sharing the more than 50 photos from your last several big family reunions, you will also have to pay.

Flickr's great! I can't wait to hear they got rid of all the moochers and pornographers. Their ads aren't evasive either.

And even this last point is unclear. Although this policy is in place they claim to date they have not actually deleted a single photo beyond 1000 on any account. Take that FWIW.

When I first read the blog and started this thread I read it as a cost cutting measure and nothing more.
I have a old account from the yeahoo days that I cannot delete or add to as the yeahoo email is long defunct.
I will not rely on Flickr to store photos, just a place to share/sell them.

I am amazed how many people have totally misinterpreted the Flickr announcement, assuming it means they are going to be booted off the platform if they don't pay. Doesn't anybody READ anymore??

In defense of everybody who misread the information, the syntax of "photos over the 50 non-public photo limit" is clunky at best.
Much better would be something like:
"If you have more than 50 of your photos stored as "non-public" photos, and you have a free account, then the excess over the 50 limit will be at risk of deletion".
