Flickr: curated street photography groups?

Hi everyone,

I'm a street photographer based in New York. I'm looking for elite, curated street photography groups on Flickr. Anybody have recommendations, or any interest in starting such a group with me? I would be willing to moderate the group. Anyway, I'm looking for curated groups that have a sense of community and not "dump and run." Also, if you are serious about street photography like I am, post a link to your work on flickr or follow me so I can see your stuff.

I would suggest creating the group here. The problem with flickr groups is there is never any notification from discussion groups. Thus is why people fade away; it requires them to manually check.....forever.

It looks like OP is very new at Flickr. Take your time to explore the Flickr. Start with learning how to use search for groups on Flickr.

HCSP (hardcore street photography) is excellent if somewhat cliquey. Street and Repeat 105 is good if you want to attempt set themes. Most of the best groups are invitation only. There are lots of really mediocre Flickr street photography groups. To succeed you'd have to be prepared to put limitless time into rejecting 99.9% of the stuff people submit. Who needs the stress? Better to concentrate on your own work.

Yeah I decided to build my own group from scratch. I'm a student with a fair amount of time on my hands making some decent money as a university photographer. The group is here: https://www.flickr.com/groups/2878404@N20/

You can submit 2 photos a week. I decide what's allowed in the group (not because I'm the worlds greatest photographer, just because I want to keep quality of the photos high).

If you're serious about quality and the curating part, then one or two a week is where you want to be. At two a day, you probably just signed away your evenings to clicking reject on shot after shot of people playing with their cell phones, sleeping, or otherwise doing not much of anything interesting. Seasoned street photographers will tell you that they produce more misses than hits -- and only a handful of keepers a year. Still, I would venture to say that there are photographers on Flickr and elsewhere that produce strong street work pretty regularly. Two a week will likely deter the so called "dump and run" crowd and free you to do more productive things -- like finding and inviting work into your group that represents your vision.

HCSP is a good model, though not very friendly. ESP (Extreme Street Photography) was good at one time. I haven't checked in with them in some time though. I kind of got away from this type of shooting.
