I found that Oriental sells Flexicolor Developer Replenisher LORR equivalent at reasonable price - 4 x 10liter kits for about $50 including shipping.
I'd like to try it out, but don't have the Starter LORR.
Kodak here(Japan) lists the Starter, so I could find it somewhere, but not localy.

Do I really need it ?
What would happen when I use the dev/rep without starter ?

Thanks in advance.

Let PE explain but I'd expect the developer to be too hot. When you run film it releases bromide etc.

It seems wierd they don't have the starter.

Kodak makes a different developer that doesn't need a starer.

The starter adjusts the developer to equal a seasoned developer. Nick has it essentially right.

You can use it, but test a roll of film first and then adjust development slightly to compensate.

Since the starter contains both halides and extra buffer and developing agent, I don't remember whether it is truly hotter or 'cooler' than the regular developer. Its been too long since I played with it. Sorry.

Thank you all.
I would try it out, run some test rolls first. If it worked I'd be able to simply continue or start a replenishing cycle. If it didn't, I'd try to buy a bottle of starter.

Thanks again.

Cheak with a local lab, they may sell enough to compleate your mix.

I understand. The "yellow" starter and the "green" starter are basically the same. I have swapped them in the past with no problems. I don't remember if there are different amounts when you do that.

Given that Fuji C41 is used (or was used) with licence from Kodak, I would think that they would be very much alike in all respects.

Fuji Hunt does make a C-41 starter. I think it is a little stronger than the Kodak, so be sure to follow the instructions. I've done this many times when starting up fresh tank solutions in automatic processors.

Finally I ordered a bottle of kodak starter though, I gave a little try.
I mixed 1 litter of working solution without starter and added 1.5g of KBr.
I developed some rolls of films for 5min 30sec at 30C with small tank, the film was Fuji PRO400, printed on Kodak supra endura with normal filter set (65M+55Y), paper developed in Kodak RA(room temp, tray).
It was little bit contrasty, just a little bit though, the color was just fine.

Thanks

Develop for 5 minutes?, 3 minutes?, where are you getting these times???. AFAIK and I have been doing C-41 since it was released, the developer time has always been 3.25 minutes at 100f. The other chemicals have different times depending on what version of C-41 you are using, but the developer has and always has been 3.25 minutes at 100f.
