Hi, I am looking for input and tips on how to flatten large gelatin silver prints. All of my typical methods, dry mount press, glass plates, won't work with these large prints measuring 40" x 50" and larger. Also looking for suggestions on dry mounting methods too.

Thanks

What kind of base is it, RC, FB, home-coated?

I've been struggling with this myself. Dry mounting large prints using my small press never came out perfectly. Not bad but not perfect. Today, I contacted a local framer. He will do the dry mounting for 20 dollars using his 60x40 press. I will supply the boards and he will supply the labor and dry mount tissue. I'm done struggling. I'm pretty sure he can flatten prints also but I have not asked him.

Sounds like a good plan. I will do some research locally to see what I can find out.

A good reference book that many customer framers use is Mounting and Laminating Handbook by Chris Paschke

Cheers,

I will check it out. The challenges with these very large fiber prints is unique and very different from the smaller formats. Hopefully Chris's book addresses this.

Thanks for the note, but that doesn't work. As noted above, the challenges with these large fiber prints is unique and very different than the typical strategies that work or the smaller sized prints.

Maybe to put the print on some flat surface (glass), tape the edges and leave it for couple of days until it dries completely?
