Flash unit for Rollei 35

Over the last 6 months or so I've acquired a couple of Rollei 35's (It was supposed to be one, but they're addictive! I'm now thinking of putting the Tessar and the Sonnar together in a confined space and seeing if a get a Triotar! ). The latter of these came with a small 3rd party flash. It's serviceable, but doesn't pack much of a wallop and the coverage isn't all that great.

I know that Rollei brought out a number of small flashes to accompany the 35, but I'm having trouble finding information on the differences between them (dimensions, guide number, weight, coverage, auto/non-auto, etc.).

Can anyone help?

Okay, I'll start -

E19BC 9x8x3.5cm, GN 19? @ 50 ASA, 4 AA batteries, no other info & this may not be reliable
E15B 2 AA batteries, nothing else currently known

Other models include -

E121BC
E128BC
E17C
E20C

Any / all additional information much appreciated.

I think the most common was the E-15B, It was just slightly smaller than the camera itself and gave one auto range or manual operation. I believe the instructions suggested that when using flash that the camera be held upside down & shutter tripped with your left thumb

Hi Frank,

I have a Rollei 100XLC for my Rollei 35S. This 2 AA battery flash is about 2 1/2" high, 2 1/4" wide and 1 1/2" deep. The flash GN as I understand it is about 46 at 10' and has 1 auto setting.

That'll be:

E128BC - 78x57x34mm, GN 21m @ ISO 100, 2x AA batteries, auto, 120g + batts

Here's another:

E20C - 85x75x33mm, GN 28m @ ISO 100, NiCad batteries charged from mains(?)

Also a warning - The trigger voltage on some of these units is high. Okay for Rollei 35's and other mechanical cameras, but do check before using them on cameras with sensitive electronics.

I use a Minox TC 35 flash with a Rollei 35. It's the one with the tilting reflector, made for the 35 PL etc. It has a contoured base to fit the Minoxes, so I use it with a hot shoe adapter that acts as a spacer. It takes AAA cells, and has a GN of 26 m at ISO 100.
