On news items in the UK we are alerted to the fact that the following film may contain flash photography. My question is, has anyone who is epileptic ever had a reaction from flash photography on television? If so, why do we not put warnings on roads where flashing sunlight through trees may cause the same problem? Do people in the USA have the same health and safety madness?

I thought it was 4 Hz strobe that cause epileptic seizures. But I have never heard of anyone having a seizure from a film. And I agree... if the authorities cannot assure that the speed limit will not cause flashing sunlight that may cause seizures.... htey really ARE obligated to post signs. But they should also feel obligated to post signs that say, "Driving slower than speed limit is just as unsafe as driving too much faster than the speed limit."

And on that note, why is it called a "Speed LIMIT" if almost every person is driving at that speed? Shouldn't they call it the speed average?

Bought to you by the same journalists that have told us the we can no longer purchase film. For the record, journalist are those who in colleges or universities could write but have never and will never have an original idea or creative thought. Keep that in mind when reading the Guardian.

Oh no... I just read some information from the epilepsy foundation. Not only can TV and trees induce seizures in susceptible folks given the right conditions, but so can venetian blinds. I hope it is just venetian blinds and not venetian mimes too!

My brother in Florida once told me, while I was visiting, that the speed limit is only a suggestion. He went on to say that the police recommend you stay under that, but no issues would arise. He said the cops are more concerned with "aggressive" drivers than speeders. I didn't believe him, until he sped by a cop car without any consequences.

I guess that it really is only a suggestion!
