Hi all, I tried searching the forum before posting but didnt find an answer to this question.....is there a flash designed for the Bronica? I have an ETR & ETRC and would like to purchase a flash to use with both. Also, would I need to buy a grip to use with the flash as I dont see anywhere on the body where the flash would be supported.

Thanks!

You can get ETR dedicated modules from Sunpak and Metz.

I don't know (and wish I *did* know) if the pins are the same for the RF645.

The Metz etc module is for the ETRSI. I don't think the older bodies support TTL. Check the left side of the body for a big round hole. The module plugs into that.

Look for a used Metz 45. The flash then supports the camera. Using the sync cable to connect the camera and flash. If you later might get an ETRSI body you can then get the flash module to plug between the two. That'll give you TTL flash. If you want TTL in the future make sure you get a 45-3 or 45-4 flash.

If you need more power the Metz 60-4 will work also.

If you really want a shoe mount the power winder has a hotshoe. I think it's hot. You can then mount the flash on the winder.

Thanks for the help guys. I do see the flash socket on the side of the ETR body, so assuming it functions correctly, I'll try to find a Metz 45.

You might also was to consider a Sunpak 120J TTL. It has a decent amount of power, but can also be used as a bare bulb. I have the Bronica TTL module for the ETRSi and SQAi, as well as the standard shoe and a TTL module for the Nikon F3. I usually don't use it in TTL mode. Likewise, I also have an Armatar LR300 that works great with these cameras (it's a Vivitar 283 modified for more power and Lumedyne flash tubes/reflectors).

My bracket of choice for medium format is the JustRite. By far, THE most comfortable bracket for medium format that I've ever used in 30+ years. I also use these brackets with a Metz 60CT-1 and they work great.

Is it a big socket? I'm not talking a normal sync cable here. The connection looks more like a computer adapter. 1/4" or so with multi pins. Don't buy the module until you're sure. The flash will work fine in auto mode with a normal sync cable. But you need the TTL module for all the features it supports. I'm not 100% certain but I think the ETRSI was the first model to support TTL flash.

Nick, it is appears to be a normal sync cable socket. The manual I found online says to use "flash cords with standard PC type plug", so I guess the Metz is out.

No the Metz will work fine in auto or manual mode. You just won't be spending money on the Bronica cable. If you're lucky and the flash comes with a normal sync cable then it just plugs in.
