Fixing (N)Everready case

Hey, I have an original Eveready case for my Nikon FM. It is in horrible condition. It is vinyl and after about 35 years the outer black lining has separated from the inner padding. Every time I remove it from my camera bag, it leaves more and more "Vinyl chips" in it. I am tired of this and am ready to replace it. I could get another one, but they are $30+. My best bet is my original idea of just duct tape-ing the outside of it. It might look cool, and it'll be waterproof!

Other than that, any suggestions?

Especially if you have a padded camera bag you keep the camera in, ditch the case and don't look back.
Otherwise, if there are any camera shows nearby, you will usually find boxes of ever-ready cases available for cheap.
Another option might be one of the generic cases, mostly marketed now for DSLR's, though those will cost most of the $30.00
KEH may have some originals, if so, they are probably cheap.

Good advice. Why would anyone want a Never-ready case?

Yep.

When one is in a hurry to take a photograph, the never-ready case is prepared to slow one down and mess-up the once in a lifetime opportunity to capture the critical moment. That is both its design and function.

The case is gone, I've cleaned out my camera bag, and everything is clean
I have come to realize that with the neveready case off, I can get those spur of the moment shots that I couldn't get before.
To celebrate, I bought another camera! I love antique shops!

About the only use for never-ready cases is for cameras like the Argus C3 that have no lugs for a strap. But normal procedure was to unsnap the front/top portion and leave it somewhere because it was hard to close with a filter adapter or other attachment on the lens. And even with that, you have to unscrew the camera fitting to change film.

About the only reason to have one.
