Hi, i ask all sorts of questions about film and developers etc and im settling on Fuji Acros 100 with Perceptol as a combination I like....although Ive just ordered some Fuji Microfine from Japan to try it out......

......but i dont know much about fixers......with this combination and my previous combination of Tmax 100 and T-Max developer I bought the T-Max fixer by kodak.....I use that at 4 minutes with the Acros and was using at 5mins with the T-Max 100......

which makes me think....is the 4 mins good for the Acros????

anyway, that has literally run out so i need to buy some more and was wondering if all fixers are the same and just the brands vary......

...which would you recommend for Fuji Acros if there is such a recommendation to be made....

I have out of date large 5l Ilford fixer and was wondering if that would be okay to use regardless of best before dates......whats the test if any? change of colour????

any and every advice welcome....

Unless there's a smell of sulphur and a yellow sediment at the bottom your fixer should be fine.

We had a similar question yesterday which I can't find quickly. But test it - mix a small amout of fixer and cut the leader from a film (35mm) see how quickly it clears, if it's rreasonably fast the Ilford fixers still OK

I've used Ilford Hypam or Rapid Fixer for about 35 years it's excellent and easy to find.
