I recently bought a Mir-38B lens for my Kiev 6C camera. This lens came with two filters (a UV and a light yellow), but both of them have a problem: The ring that seals the glass to the thread ring is peeling off, as shown here:
As the lens takes 72mm filters, replacing these filters would be pricey, so if it's possible I'd like to repair them. I was thinking of using super glue to stick the ring back down, but I thought I'd post here for advice in case somebody's got a better idea. Thanks.
Surely that could be repaired very easily with 2 pt epoxy or super glue but don't apply the glue direct from the tube, use an unfolded paper clip or tip of a scalpel blade to apply small amounts. Push the offending piece down and apply just above by the filter thread not the glass side.
Hmmm - is it metal? In some filters I've seen, that ring is a spring retainer that should seat in a groove or under a ridge around the inside of the outer shell. Any chance you can just push it back to where it belongs?
Thanks Dave! Yes, it is metal, and following your suggestion, I got it to stick in place. I'm not sure it'll really hold for long, but I'll give it a try without any glue for a while. If it doesn't hold, I'll apply a glue of some sort.
