If I understand your question, you want to lay the preserver sheet onto the glass and scan directly without removing the strips. I do this with every roll of film as a "contact" sheet, scaled to the size and resolution for evaluation only. I apply adjustment curve layers (in Pshop) to individual frames to further evaluate. The preserver material needs to be clear, and I lay a sheet of anti-newton ring glass on top just to flatten it (if you don't have ANR glass, plain window glass would probably be ok for this purpose).
