Finally got around to putting some Kodachrome in the old Nikon F3 the other day. Shipped it out to Dwaynes and had it back in 3 days. Forgot how nice the film looks when veiwing on the old light table.

My scanner does not do this film justice or maybe its my scanning skills but here is my first Kodachrome shot in 25 years. The last time I shot Kodachrome in the F3 was when I was 18 and in New York City for the first and only time ever. What a trip!

Finally got picture attached. I really need to get a better scanner. Works ok with my medium format stuff but 35mm is not so good. Oh well you get the idea anyway.

I just got back my first roll in at least 15 years. I had no idea they still sold it -- NEVER see it advertised or even mentioned in stores (which is a crock of *#@!! IMHO) or I would have bought more much sooner.

I was amazed when I got the roll back - they look amazing and are definitely unique. Picked up another 10 rolls, I was so impressed.

There is something of a thrill of opening a box of slides fresh from Dwayne's. It kinda takes your breath away.

I always love opening a package from Dwayne's...Kodachrome is magical stuff to me. As I was showing a recent batch of Kodachrome to a co-worker I mentioned semi-tongue-in-cheek that Kodachrome even makes my bad shots look good. We both laughed, but we both agreed there was a lot of truth there, too! Yesterday I suggested a challenge to the other two guys I work with. We all have to shoot a roll or two of Kodachrome this week, we're sending it out on Tuesday. Heck, I even bought a Nikon F recently so I could mimic Paul Simon's song....

I love looking at the emulsion side of this film. It looks so different then other transparency films. It almost looks etched out! I just ordered 6 rolls to start with but probably will get more soon.

I recently bought my first roll in around 10 years, I then found some half-price at my local high street chemist so I've got a small stock now. ASA64 is a bit of a challenge for the UK, but I'm keen to give it a go when the sun comes out.

Well one good thing about Kodachrome in 35mm is that you can at least open your lens up and still get pretty good depth of field. On a sunny day I was shooting at f8 @ 1/250 with the Nikon F3. I wish I would of tried this film in 120 when it still was available so I could compare it directly with my 120 Velvia transparencies. I bet the 4x5 sheet film would take your breath away!

Just bought 10 rolls to after many years not using it. I plan on using most in my Horizon camera, can anyone confirm that it is possible to get the film developed without having it cut?

Yes, I shoot it in my Kodak Stereo camera. They send it back uncut, rolled up in a small cardboard tube. Just make sure to write "do not mount" in big letters somewhere on your order!

It is possible. Make sure that you clearly indicate that you do not want the film to be mounted.

Heh... Spread the word! Maybe we can raise popularity to the point of Kodak making more of it in 4x5! (Having a film orgy here lol)

you gave me a good laugh........I don't think that we will see it in 4x5 again since Dwaye's processor can not handle it. I supose it could happen but the chances are one in one trillion! Do you guys know about the Kodachrome Project? There are some great forums over there.

I know the feeling - how many days per year do we get "sunny 16" in this country? Most summers about 3... I buy my Kodachrome from 7dayshop.com, currently £7.99 a roll, processing included, so even when you factor in a 72 pence stamp to airmail it to Switzerland it is still probably the cheapest slide film + processing you can get in the UK.

I scan about 50-100 slides weekly, and with Kodachrome it is just about impossible to get it exactly right. I have a Coolscan 5000ED and a Canoscan 8800F. At the end of the day, if you get the red right the blue is off, if the blue is right the greens are off, and so on... Not that you can't get nice looking scans, but they are not exact replicas of your image. Another reason why Kodachrome is a medium that should be shared in basic photography classes at colleges. There are certainly instances where you get a desired result with this film that you do not with digital.

Similar to a previous response, I just write: "KODACHROME (K-14): DO NOT CUT. DO NOT MOUNT." I mention the film and process type because it goes through several hands before Dwayne's ever sees it.

What I remember about kodachrome all those years back was, you had to be fairly accurate with the exposure and get it right for the right subject and it was terrific, get it wrong with the wrong subject well kodachrome just can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
