Well its been about 3 months since I purchased Gene Laughters book and video on the Bromoil process. I finally took out the video and refreshed what I had read months ago. I chose two prints to work with first and began the process of making the prints last night. I made 3 prints of various exposures and finished bleaching/final fixing this morning. I look forward to inking a matrix or two this evening. Many thanks to Gene for presenting his guide in a fashion that both directed well and encourages some experimenting. I will post images of the print, bleached matrix, and my final result when complete. I have a few questions on the process:
1) After bleaching, the rinse seemed to restore the image a bit--is that an illusion?
2) What is happening during the fix after the bleach? I suspect that there is some residual silver that the fix is removing but I'm not sure.
3) When blotting after the rinse--post second fix-I managed to leave some impressions in the matric where too much pressure was applied. Will these go away when the print is dried and then soaked for inking?
The process is fairly involved but I'm having a blast--thanks Gene!
