I shoot anything as long as I have time to spend (with jared) you guys in the darkroom. Good humour is great Ice Cream, I can't find it here anymore

I'm really excited just to watch and listen to all of you, so the while I'd like to weather to be good for driving sake, I'ts not going to hamper our days one bit.
Since I'm pulling Jared out of school we will leave Wed night. High Honors gives him that privallige. He can loose it just as easy, he knows it, and I'm proud of him for this as well as a million other reasons. (sorry, can't help it, I'm a mush)

Whoa, Are you guys jumping the weather gun? When is the start date? May 13/14 six pages back. I know it's been raining a lot but we are still eight days off. I hope. Any meet time yet for Wednesday the 13th. 14th?

For those of you needing directions to Swannanoa, simply list Swannanoa Ln, Afton, VA in Mapquest. Swannanoa is at the very far end of Swannanoa Ln.

Tentative Schedule

Alright, Richard and I have conferred and here is The Plan!

Stay in Touch!
In order to keep communication simple and reliable, I ask that you please PM me individually with this info: your phone number, your email address, your expected arrival time, and where you'll be staying in Charlottesville (or nearby). When I receive your PM, I'll respond with my cell number.

Important to Know!
This will be the weekend of commencement at UVa so if you plan to do any shooting in the UVa area or Monticello then you'd better do it by Thursday PM. Friday will see thousands of families descending on Charlottesville. Trust me you will not want to be around all that!

Our Schedule:

Wednesday: (the 13th)
Some of you will arrive Wednesday PM. I can meet up with anyone who arrives after 5 pm or so, but we won't kick off officially until Thursday. If you do wish to come early and do some shooting, I can provide some tips on where to go for self-guided shooting, dining and whatnot.

Thursday: (the 14th)
Shooting will be mostly self-guided and in several different directions, but I & Richard can join in for some trips to: UVa, Monticello, Barboursville ruins, and maybe Swannanoa. If the weather is no good then we can do some macro and/or some darkrooming. If there is particular stuff that you wish to do in the darkroom then please give me a rough idea.

Thursday ~5 pm we'll meet at the Mudhouse Cafe in Charlottesville on the west end of the downtown mall. It is opposite the ice rink and near the Omni hotel.

Friday: (the 15th)
~10 am: meet at Dead Link Removed in Afton. Veritas has a large lounge where we can meet and chat.... and do some wine tasting and buying! This will be the official meet & greet location and we'll return there for various discussions.

Friday's shooting will be done mostly at Swannanoa and the nearby Blue Ridge, weather permitting.

N.b. Friday around noon is the last chance for machine developing at Stubblefield Photo with same-day return. Stubblefield can do b&w, c41, and E6 in all formats. Friday around 5 pm is the last time you'd get to visit Bill Moritz's store Dead Link Removed, which is a very nice place with lots of gear new and old, film, paper, bags, tripods, you name it.

Saturday: (the 16th)
Shooting opps include Staunton, Skyline Drive, the Blue Ridge, DeJarnette.

Saturday PM will be our slide show, so if you have mounted 35mm or MF slides, do bring 'em! LF transparencies are also welcome for light table viewing. Location TBA.

Again, bring prints, transparencies, gear, and good humour. We'll make good use of all of those.

The OP states "Swannanoa is reserved for the days of Wednsday, Thursday and Friday, the 13th, 14th, and 15th." I anticipate arriving early Wed. AM. Will Swannanoa be available to photograh on Wed and Thur? If it is foggy on the mountain, I want to be able to photograph the mansion.

Without going into much detail online, let me just say that the organization that runs Swannanoa is very difficult to contact and we're doing our best. As of now, we know that we have Friday for sure, and I am going to try to get Thursday. I don't think we can get Wednesday there though.

The weather is really a crap shoot these days but we wont lack for photo opps. I just received an email from Veritas that we have the ballroom for the day on Friday for our get to gather and planning session. We can car pool up the mountain or anywhere else we want to go. The web site is www.veritaswines.com and you can check out the photos and get directions from the site. Although 10 is the target time, I'm planning on arriving early so anyone wishing to touch base can PM me as well for phone numbers and such. A good time will be had by all!!

Cyanotyping is one rainy-day activity that I will set up for this workshop... bring any negs you want to try. My UV contact printer can handle up to ~5x7 negs. Bigger will require some actual sunlight

Also, as I mentioned in another thread, another rainy day activity we can do is test transmission of various IR filters, so bring those with you. I have a 72, 87, 93, and some others. We can do some testing while prints or negs are washing.

Keith, I use Singh-Ray filters that I will be bringing.

Jared is quite taken with video. He would like to make little video clips if no one has any objection with his new small little hand held.

I also have two new 95mm UV filters (used for about a month actually) that are perfect if anyone is interested.
Of course Cyanotyping for a rainy-day. I'm a big sponge so I'll enjoy anything.

I plan on stopping at Barboursville Ruins Thursday afternoon begore heading to Charlottesville and the Mudhouse. I've been there for ouutdoor Shakespeare performances before, but have never seen it without a stage setup on it. I'm anxious to see what is there for pictures. If anybody else heads that way, and sees someone who obviously doesn't know what he's doing, stop by and say hello.

Do we have a meeting place set up before 5:00 on Thursday. I will be in Waynesboro by 11:00 am and can go straight to meet up with the group(I us this loosely). I have never done a cyanotype so part of me hopes for rain. If you would rather I call once I get in I will be glad to do that.

Oh I think we can expect scattered showers. We've not had more than 24 straight hours of dry weather in weeks, it seems. But I am gathering various things for us to do during whatever wet periods may arise.

Michel I imagine that I'll be free from around noon on Thursday, why don't we plan on meeting. Let's see what the weather is doing and decide on Wed afternoon or evening.

that is fine with me. I will still be in Maryland on Wednesday, but you can call and we can work something out. I think alot will depend on the weather.

I'm sad and sick. I'm sorry, beginning last night in class I went into a MS relapse and spent a number of hours in the Hospital for delautin. You can not fathom how disapointed and sad I am. I would still make the drive expect my leg cramps and with Jared in the car it is very unsafe. I've not had a relapse since last summer.
I'm so sorry.

I stopped by Veritas this morning with some guests and it sure is pretty out there right now. I think we'll have a great time there, even if it rains more than we'd like.

I'll head out to Swannanoa around 1 pm tomorrow (Thurs), leaving from my office at UVa. If anyone wishes to join up with me for that, feel free, just ring me on my cell. I'll make my way down to the Mud House cafe in C'ville around 5pm.

The hourly weather report looks decent for Thursday, whereas for Friday it looks pretty dreary but with some good patches. Anyway, for darkroom amusement, we have:

-general dev'ing
-general printing
-cyanotypes
-lith printing
-c41 dev'ing

We also will be looking at prints and slides and gear, and Bill's store will be open Friday, so.... plenty of rainy day stuff to do.

Yep, it was a very nice first shoot. Some more of us met for dinner on the downtown mall and there should be ~7-8 or so tomorrow morning at Veritas at 10 am. Never mind the weather, we have lots of things lined up!
