First 8x10 negs exposed!

I finally got my lens today(12" Ilex Paragon, thanks Jeremy) , and rushed out to expose a couple of sheets. I used J&C Pro 100 @EI 80, and it was a bit overcast, maybe 4-5 stops of exposure range at most.
I used incident metering.

Now I`m going to develop these negs for contact printing on cheap RC paper/Neutol+(starting cheaply...)
Should I develop different for contacts?
I have Rodinal, XTOL and Pyrocat HD available.

Wow, an 8x10 camera sure is an attention getter! Fun!

If you are printing on silver bromide based paper, you don't need to develop differently. If you are printing on Silver Chloride (Azo) or other alt-process papers (platinum/palladium, cyanotype, etc), then you need to extend your development time. This is just personal preference, but I'd suggest the Pyrocat.

First neg developed, for 14 mins in Pyrocat HD 1:1:100 68 C.
Just looking at the neg all I can say is WOW!!!

Can`t wait to scan and contact print it....
Well, off to the next neg....

Btw, the Pyrocat is close to six months old, and still works beautifully.

Seriously: Congratulations! I remember pulling my first 8x10 negative from the tank. I still get that same thrill today whenever I pull one out. Amazing stuff!

Seriously congratulations...having passed from 35 to 120 to 4x5 to 5x7 can only imagine what the 8x10 negs must look like.. WOW would be calm me thinks...

Now, must stay away from that auction site...for the rest of the summer anyway..then maybe, just maybe...

Yup - same thing I said. I developed my first 8x10 negative last weekend in trays. PlusX Aero in divided d23. I can actually see "everything" in the negative without a magnifier. I have two more in holders exposed and waiting. Tonight I built a BTZ tube for 8x10 so tomorrow evening I'll do the other two.

Yeah, the thrills just kept getting bigger and bigger. I kept going, 8x10 was great, then the 11x14, I had to have more . . . Now I'm at the 12x20. Unbelievable! Studing the detail in a 12x20 contact print is unreal!

May I ask what camera you have in 20x24? I'm very interested in a panoramic camera (7x17 or 8x20), and would be interested in hearing your thoughts on your ULF camera.

Considering moving up to ULF Ole?
Looking at the 8x10 contcat, you start to wonder, hmm how would a 11x14 look like
Nah, I think 8x10 will do for a while, unless someone make a ultralight ULF that is portable....

Hello Mongo (Dave),

I have an old F&S 12x20 that I picked up for about $700 a few years back. It's a beast. It takes me three trips to the car every time I find an image worthy of its use.
First, for the large heavy tripod. Second for the camera. and back to the car again for the dark cloth, film holder and meter. Click, and reverse the sequence. But when you are looking at the final print, it is worth it!

Jeg har allerede 6,5x9, 9x12, 4x5", 5x7", 13x18, 18x24 og en 8x10" under restaurering (med "full-plate" bakstykke til). Dessverre er 24x30 like vanlig som hønsetenner, så 30x40 blir nok neste stopp...

There is no need to apologize for your manners (which I don't think are particularly bad)...especially when you consider that there is no cure!!! I'm sorry to have to verify what they've said, but you're already on a very slippery slope, and it's covered with grease. You might as well enjoy the ride.
