Very cool! A wet Spring here in coastal NW California.
I spent all of the extended summer seasons of the 1980s packing mules and building/maintaining trails in a California wilderness. All meals cooked over open fires. I depended on the coffee addicts of my crew to get the breakfast fires going while I gathered up the mules. Arriving at camp at the end of the day, we took turns cooking dinner. Besides having no hair left on the back of ones hands, there is some satisfaction in a well-built and maintained cooking fire.
Now on my solo backpack trips I'll often take a small gas stove, forgo the campfires, and enjoy the nights. Plus, open fires are not allowed in many places now.
