Well times are fun. I have a lot of prints and a few that might even sell, and I desperately need money to get through the next 2 months. Thinking of setting up a table to sell prints on my front lawn, at least until the revenooers come and take it down. Problem is I have very few mats.

So whats the best deal on decent, cheap bulk mats that you know of for both B &W and color? I don't have a mat cutter and have never cut mats. I'll sacrifice some quality for a good price, but not enough to cause rapid damage. I figure at Fire Sale prices if the prints last 10-15 years I've done my job.

if you are making window matts....

get a dexter matt cutter. its not expensive and gets the job done. any straight edge will do as your guide.
scroll down below the logans.

http://www.ebay.com/bhp/mat-cutter

buy large matts from dick, using your straight edge and a utility knife to cut to size.

the trick to good cuts is use a sacrifice matt below to keep the blade from drifting. and careful measurements n a sharp pencil. kneaded eraser will remove your tick marks, dont draw lines.

oh, if using window matts, use the window cut outs for smaller prints so make copies in several sizes to untilize all waste.

These mats are usually for smaller artwork such as 4x6 and 8x10 but we sometimes have some for 11x14. However, these are below our cost which means no way you could make your own for less. Checkout our clearance section:
https://www.framedestination.com/clearance.html

If we sometimes have some things you like you can subscribe to our newsletter and indicate you want to be notified when we update the clearance section. The larger mats usually go pretty fast.

Cheers,
