North rim closed for summer.

I too was on the North Rim years ago. There are limited paved roads in the North Rim and it is remote. So only 10% of the Grand Canyon visitors make it there. It is an excellent place to do off roading with an appropriately equipped vehicle, but with the risks in off roading, one should do it with a group. Since I never could get enough vehicles to go with me, I never got to off road in the North Rim.

That aside, the buildings are gone and the North Rim is closed for the season. The North Rim is closed due to snow in the winter. Next spring the roads will be open, there will be no accommodations, but the scenery will still be there. To visit the North Rim, get a motel north of there in the Vermilion Cliffs area, and in the morning drive to the North Rim for the day and return to the motel or just leave the area.

You just never know at the North Rim. Sometimes the view can be totally obscured by fog. But it's free from the South Rim crowds, and can have some nice Fall aspen color. With drastic defunding for all our Natl Parks going rife at the moment, along with mass personnel layoffs, hard to say how efficiently any reopening will even go.
