Fingerprints on slides: PEC PADS and PEC 12? Scratches really badly?

So, I'm not sure if I used too much, but on a scrap slide (Velvia 100F), I tried wiping a fingerprint off and ended up giving it a crap load of scratches and some bubbling due to the PEC 12. Is there a safe way of using it? Is there a better way of cleaning slides?

I use Ronsinol lighter fluid on a q-tip. Works great and even takes away mold spots.

I don't like Pec-12 it seems to swell the emulsion and leaves streaks and blotches.
