my motive in posting was regarding early success, fame because of a single result (being able to build beyond or not)
so: stages of artistic effort, career. Mr. Knopfler nodded to the actors in that interview expecting their career experience may have been similar.
further aside: years ago on Charlie Rose, Alan Alda remarked about the difference between fame and fortune as being that the rich can walk the street or go shopping easier. & he'd prefer wealth to fame

He's a great player, one of the best in the world, and very unique. When you see him live or on a live video, you see that he uses his fingers mostly, if he has a pick it's small, attached to his thumb, and he will play bass w/ that sometimes and finger the lead/rhythm notes at the same time. Totally amazing guitarist.

... the nutrients of the clip aren't about the guitar; they are about developing skill beyond reliance upon equipment. Creating a new picking method because the guitar was the wrong one to use, but the only he had.
and in mature years, when you are readily copied, rephrased, you can recall the time of being free to make it all up.
