Finding thicker negative sleeves

Hey everyone

I'm shopping around to replace my Print File sleeves, I find them too thin and flimsy and way too short on the sides to protect the whole length of the negative. I saw Adox has some too that seem wider, does anyone know how thick they are? Or if you can recommend some good alternatives?

what size film are you sleeving, and how many frames per strip ? I've never had issues with pages for all manner of 35mm or 120.

Well, I've never found much else besides Print File. I like theirs because I can do my contact sheets with the negs in them - this is why they're not that wide; they'll fit on an 8x10 sheet of paper. I cut mine in strips of 4. Yes it's awkward at the end of the roll, but I'm used to it. 24 exp rolls get one sheet and 36 exp rolls get two.

35 6HB (six strips of six frames) should work for your strips unless you have crazy wide spacing...

You guys don't find that there's almost no space at the ends for the strip? It's barely covered. 35 6HB is what I use to buy, which definitely does not fit on an 8x10 unless the bottom row is cropped a little. I'm more confused now

ah, you're contacting in the pages as well ? I sleeve 7 strips of five frames, and it *just* fits 8x10. although I'll often contact onto 11x14 to avoid the hassle. I also tend so shoot for 35 frames, vs squeezing every last frame out of the roll

I seek out Paterson glassine pages.

It’s almost like those sheets pioneered the 6 frames to a strip concept.

They’re great for the job, but a little bigger than other pages. You need the corresponding notebook binders

Hi Bill, where do you get those? Can you contact through them in the sleeves?

eBay (occasionally) but no. You have to remove negatives from sleeves to use them.

8.5x11 paper is for contact printing, not 8x10.

This is the problem, back then there was 8.5x11 single weight fiber paper, which was fabulous. SW fiber was magical because you could see the different tones by flashing a light through it.
Judging negatives on such paper was exquisite and the expertly way of doing things.

8x10 rc paper is simply garbage by comparison. But that’s what we got.

If you think it is too short, why don't you just cut 5 frames instead of 6.?

Print File has a sleeve style that includes a pocket for the contact print. That will give you some increased thickness, though it doesn't change the number of frames per strip. You can still make the contact sheet with the negs in the sleeves by putting the paper into the pocket for exposing.

They are made for five frames. A full 36 exposure roll takes one full page plus one row of a second.

Perhaps that is why six frames are too long?

What did I discovered recently is that with Vue All #3500 sleeves (5 frames x 7 rows), width of individual sleeves in no equal. It's easier to slide in negatives in bottom few sleeves than in the rest of them. Strange!?

Yesterday I opened Print File "5 frames X 7 rows" package (35-7BXW) and the same thing. Width of the individual sleeves are not the same. Sleeve #4 is tightest and very hard to load.

That sounds like a good idea, do you contact them through the sleeve? If so, what size paper do you use?

About thickness: don't know, I'm happy with pergamin (breathes)
About width, for 35mm 7 strips of 6:

fotoimpex: width too small by a couple of mm: the ends of each strip are poorly or not protected from dust
Kenro (UK) is OK
Panodia (FR) is OK

I contact print on 24x30cm RC paper, then trim slightly to fit in ring binder.
