My usual suspects for "View Camera" magazine don't seem to carry it any longer. This is the Chapters/Indigo chain. Has anyone had any luck finding the mag in Ontario.

Rob, the Chapters/Indigo store in Richmond Hill still has it, although it is the July/August issue that is still on the shelves. Are you sure they aren't carrying it, or is it just late reaching the stores?

I find lots of issues with View Camera magazine. The spelling. The design. The reproduction. The writing. The editing...

Rob,
Chapters in Barrie is carrying it. It was much later in arriving than usual (july-aug), so I asked when it would be in. They told me they had none in stock and none on order, yet two days later, there it was on the shelf. So, I don't know what's up with Chapters.

My local Chapters (Windsor) hasn't had it for a bit either, but I had found it a few months back at a local news stand in the mall... Are there any specialty book sellers where you're at? (Where are you at?)

No problem to find VC mag in the GTA from Chapters/Indigo. Ron Bose who also lives in your neck of the woods reported last year that he had problems finding VC. I'm sure you could make an arrangement with your local Chapters/Indigo to bring it in for you from another branch?

Glad to know some of you can find it.

Thanks for the interest.

We are working on solving the problems with Canadian subscriptions. Here is one theory. Some magazines mail several weeks early. So their July issue is mailed in early June. If it takes a month to get through the Canadian mail it still seems on time. We don't mail early but try and mail around the first so if it takes amonth to get through the Canadian mail system it seems late but the actual in route time is the same.

We have also made a big effort to produce a cleaner magazine with fewer typos. Lets see with the Sept/Oct issue. The new cover and table of contents is on our web site

Hi, Rob -

I'm in Waterloo, and my local Chapters always seems to have a copy, although they only seem to get a handful. If you still have a hard time finding a copy locally, PM me and I can pick one up for you.

Regards, Graham

Rob,

View Camera in Canada is distributed by LMPI --> it is a big distributor, and you should be able to walk into any good newsstand and ask them to bring in and hold a copy for you (and by "good" I am thinking more local "ma and pa" newsstands who actually care about your business vs. Chapters - the price on the cover is the same no matter who you get it from). I did this for years.

FYI - I am not sure what the subscription rates for View Camera are these days given the more favourable $Can:$US exchange rates, but for years, some brilliant marketing genius at View Camera set the Canadian subscription prices (in $US) higher than the newsstand price!

Actually, fellow Canucks, I wouldn't bother subscribing to VC. It is nothing but a major pain in the you-know-what. I used to subscribe years ago and gave that up in favor of picking it up off the rack which I've done for years now.

This past X-Mas my son gave me a year's subscription as a gift. Well. Guess what! Things haven't changed a bit! The first issue made it fine. The second was delayed and I had to ask for it at VC. The third and the fourth never even made it and who knows what'll happen to the current one. A few emails to VC (Steve Simmons) have gone unanswered. So to hell with subscribing. I like the mag enough to still buy off the shelf but I'll never subscribe to it again.

My 2 cents.

July subscription issue never appeared however, ....once I contacted View staff, they couriered a copy to me. Original copy never did turn up. I get other magazines from the US and delivery does not seem to be a problem for them. My other 2 issues arrived as expected. Hope things change.

Mr. Grenier's comment that we have not responded is untrue. My office mamnager responds to every e-mail she recieves re delivery problems and we have sent several notes to Mr. Grenier to try and resolve the problem.. We have sent Mr. Grenier several replacement copies as well.

Re the Canadian price - we took the US sub price and added the additional postage to arrive at the $40.00 US price. Makes sense to me. Sending copies one at a time is much more expensive per copy then sending them bulk tpo a distributor. To be fair you have to count your time, gas and energy when going to a bookstore and looking at that price.

We are very interested in our out of the US readers. We set up distributors in England, Australia and Canada to better serve them I regret that the Canadiuan distributor took of with my and your money.

I have been able to find it regularly at Book City and Press International. Both these stores have branches in the beaches and on the Danforth near the Big Carrot. Close to where I live, but there are others. They always seem to come about a month after being issued. After looking into the cost of a subscription and all the head aches people have, I won't be getting a scrip' any time soon. I've bought every issue since fall 2000 and I'm a little annoyed that some articles aren’t complete. But access to the subscribers section isn’t worth the price of admission. I'll just keep picking it up at the store.

If you had to go through what I did as a subscriber for the last year, you would be chasing down every issue and you wouldn't get access to the subscribers section anyway. I did manage to get every issue that I was owed but it was like painfully slow, and I would rather have paid the gas money and my time to buy it elsewhere.

Well, Steve. If you did respond, which I trust you did, I never received anything in either emails or replacement issues. Serious! In fact, I have received nothing whatever from VC for well over 5 months now although my subscription is for this entire calendar year.

I suppose an overly agressive email filtering system may have blocked your emails to me so I will re-send my concerns using another email account.

As for not receiving any issues from you - either the regular issues or the replacement ones - I certainly cannot account for that mystery. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy VC very much and I own every issue but this subscription thing has been a very frustrating exercise for a great many of us.

I just hope for the benefit of your readership (and you guys at VC) these issues can be resolved once and for all.

Regards - Daniel
