Filters, strap, hood and CLA for a Rolleiflex Automat Tessar f3.5?

What type bayonet does the Rolleiflex Automat (M-X E-V) with a Tessar f3.5 lens (1954-56 vintage) use? What filters to use? Does anyone still make new filters for the Rollei bayonet?

Same question regarding a hood for the taking lens? Any bayonet hoods? Am I right in assuming that this would go on the outer bayonet?

Any suggestions for a strap? Specially one that would allow me to keep the everready case on? I have a partially torn everready case with a short strap but want to hang the camera around my neck or shoulder.

Anybody specialize in CLA of Rollei TLRs?

Hi Hany,

it is Bayonet I you are looking for. I got my filters, hood, lensshade and rolleinar at a well known auction place for reasonable prices. Even the original strap shows up occasionally.

As I am located in Germany I can not really help with an address for a CLA. I don't expect you to send your camera overseas. Otherwise Paepke in Düsseldorf should be ok.

Agree - #1 bayonet filters and hood. In the heyday of Rollei, numerous manufacturers made filters to fit Rollei - some of these used mounts which unscrew easily into 2 parts. I have made myself a "new" yellow-green filter by removing the glass from a B+W 35.5 mm filter and putting it in one of these mounts. B+W used to make Rollei bayonet filters, haven't seen them for a while. Filters are available new from www.srbfilm.co.uk but these are resin types.

CLA - no problem for any competent tech. I know good people in the UK - will give you addresses if interested.

Most Rollei products were really well designed, but not the ERCs. These neded to be stretched to get the camera in, as a result an ERC which does not have ripped stitching is almost impossible to find. They are quite impractical, but could be repaired by a leather shop if you want to try one.

You can find Bay I to screwmount adapters on the auction site. For my Yashica D (which also uses Bay I) I have a bay1 to 49mm adapter, and a rectangular metal lens hood. I screw the hood into the adapter, which then go in the INNER bayonet of the taking lens. For filters, I just use whatever 49mm filter I want between the adapter and the hood. Much cheaper than hunting for old filters, and you have the advantage of being able to use modern multicoated ones.

I have used him and Krikor Maralian at Krimar Camera, and they are both excellent.

I'm not familiar with the strap on an Automat, but I use a Domke strap on a 3.5F and it works well. It's not as cute as a Rollei leather strap, but it's functional.

Be careful of the original Rollei straps. By now, they are about 50 years old, and the integrity of the leather should be checked frequently. The last thing you want is to have the leather snap and then watch as the Rolleiflex crashes to the ground in slow motion.

I'm with Mike, original straps are for collectors not users. As far as CLA, I had Essex Camera in NJ service my Rolleicord V and they did an excellent job, turnaround was about 3 weeks.
