Filters and adapters

Speed Gray

Hello:

i just pulled my deceased father-in-law's M3 from my top bureau drawer. I got it after his death abt 15 years ago. Thought I would try it out. Loaded a roll of Tri-X. I am all set.

Knowing very little about Leicas in general, I downloaded Tahoe M3 instruction manual and read it thoroughly. Then spent abt an hour cleaning it up before loading.

This camera has a 50mm f2 Ernst Leitz Waetzler Summicron lens, sn 1543522. Body is sn 924002. I see that this camera takes E39 sized filters. Is this the same as a standard 39mm filter, or is it something else? I would like to get a standard 39mm to 49mm adapter ring so I could use some of my 49mm filters on this camera.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

wow man, what an awesome camera to score from your family. I hope you are having fun with it. I think the E39 is the same as other 39mm filters, but don't quote me on that.

Make sure you keep it very dry and preferably in a dry cabinet when not in use. These old bangers are the best. Funny when I shoot with my M6 so many kids run up and wanna look for the photo on the back after I take their pics - even some adults! Hilarious to see their expressions when there is nothing for them to see. Teaches them patience, I hope.

cheers
Peter
