Filter solution for my Aero Ektar 178mm f2.5?

The lens says it's a 5x5. I measured the diameter of the rim from the inside and it came to roughly 4.5".

Lee appears to have some kind of filter holder that holds 4" filters. Will that work for me if I'm willing to put up with the vignetting? For this project I actually would like the effect the vignetting creates. The question is, should I just stick with my jerry rigging a Wratten 89B (i'm shooting IR) filter with gaffer's tape, sticking it over the lens and going to town? I've done this a couple times and it's not pretty, but the images come out fine. The only thing is now I've got sticky gaffers residue on the edges of my Wratten filters.

I'd be interested in hearing from other Aero users, or people aware of the Aero or other un-normal big lenses with no filter threads, about this dilemma.

Unless I am very much mistaken, this means it covers 5x5 inches (on 5-inch aerial film).

150mm (6 inch) square filters are made by several manufacturers.

The previous owner of mine knocked the glass out of a 72mm filter, and hot glued it to the outside of the front rim. This allows 72mm filters to then be threaded onto the front.

We must be talking about a different lens because a 72mm filter won't traverse the diameter of the rim. Unless maybe your friend cut off the rim/hood of the lens? I haven't measured the actual diameter of the lens.

From time to time filters for this lens come up on ebay. I have a set of yellow and red for my Aero-Ektar that I got that way. They pop into the built-in hood that's on front of the lens.

Some times the filters come with an entire aerial camera, too.

I have the filters,... a red, orange and UV. But they don't pop in, they are just glass. They require a retaining ring... a missing element. However, this point is moot as I'm not using either of those filters, I'm trying to use an 89B.

I'm actually using a 4x4 inch square which is fine, except that I have to use it with gaffer's tape to keep it on top of the lens.

I'm just trying to get a more professional / efficient solution.

The metal doesn't look cut, but the front element of the lens is very close to the filter, so perhaps my lens barrel is different from yours. The barrel is pretty tight to the glass.
