Filter question

Hello, how are you all, I wanted to ask a question: I have a pair of c lenses for Hasselblad (the chrome ones) and I wanted to know if using a UV or skylight filter would help reduce the sun flair and increase the contrast a bit in white and black. To get closer to what a Hasselblad T* coating could be.

In a word... not really. You can't use a filter to replace coating. But a proper lens hood can help quite a bit. If you are not using a lens hood/shade, then seriously consider doing that as your first course of action.

You may see a contrast effect that you like with a yellow filter, but it's really with an orange or red filter where you see a noticable/dramatic contrast effect. But it depends on what you are photographing as subject color matters. There are many good guides to the use of contrast filters on the internet...

As noted by Brian Shaw a UV or Skylight will not have any noticeable impact on contrast, the UV might help with flare and increase sharpness with scenes at a distance. A skylight is intended color to reduce the blue cast, and not by much, sort of a color warming filter. A polarizer filter will darken the sky with panchromatic black and white film and bring out the clouds. Yellow to Red will darken the sky but also darkening foliage. And remember for a yellow to red filter to work there must be blue in the scene, as in sky or water or plants. A green filer will also darken sky, and is used to correct tones of caucasian skin tone.

A filter will not change the coating of the lens to a T*, but could have an impact with the ability to "see" though haze by filtering out UV light. I have seen little or no improvement with a Skylight 1A filter, but I have seen improvement mostly at higher altitudes with a UV filter.

If flairs your problem, adding extra surfaces of glass to creat flair won't help remove it .
If the sun is not in the frame , using a decent hood will provide shade to the lens and help prevent flair .
If the sun is in the frame , then you will have flair anyway.

A UV or skylight filter helps remove haze caused by UV light typically at the coast or up on mountains .

If you post an image as an example of the flair your trying to remove, we'll be able to tell what's causing it and offer a solution.
