Filter ideas

My equipment for MF is an old TLR Richomatic 225 bought off Ebay a few years back. Luckily, it came with a yellow (Y2) filter. I've been looking for other filters to try with this camera, but have been unlucky so far. Does anyone have any suggestions?

One idea I have is to see if filters for other similar TLR's might fit, as they seem to be more prevalent. The filter seems to have three flanges that you seat then twist to lock onto the lens. Does anyone have any idea if this might work?

Another idea I have is to buy a 72mm filter that will also fit my 28-200 zoom for my 35mm camera, then I could hold it in front of the lens. I only consider this because the person at the portrait studio where I recently had a quicky portrait taken did this with a soft focus lens. This sounds problematic to me since I'm guessing the larger filter would probably get scratched, not to mention the challenge and limitations of this method.

Yet another idea is to look for some Cokin filters and do the above mentioned hold it it front of the lense idea. This might also be nice for my 4x5 camera as well. Hmmm. Thanks for the help.

Sounds like a Bay 1, in which case you're in luck. Bay 1 (aka B30) is the standard filter mount for Rollei and Yashica TLR's. They're pretty easy to get hold of, but often cost more than they realistically should - walk away from anything more than a couple of pounts and you'll find another for a better price.

A few months ago, I found, on E-Bay, a Bayonet 1 to 49mm adapter, described as "new"; the description turned out to be, apparently, accurate. I got it for a nominal amount. It causes minimal interference with the viewing lens.

I have a Super Ricohflex, and I use this website as my reference:

They say that the filters are Bay 1:

The original Diacord model (a.k.a Ricohflex Dia) as well as the Diacord G and L and Ricohmatic 225 have a cast aluminum body and helical focusing with a lever on each side of the lens panel (called "Duo-Lever Focusing System" in the Diacord G manual.). Better shutters were used giving more speeds: 1/10-1/300 (Dia), 1-1/400 (G) or 1-1/500(L and 225). The lens in the Dia is a 3 element design (AFAIK) and some Diacord G's have a 3 element Riconar lens. Later G's as well as the L's and 225 have the well regarded Rikenon 4-element (tessar style) lens. The Diacord models still use knob advance with separate shutter cocking levers, but the 225 uses a crank to wind and simultaneously cock the shutter. All models have automatic stop on the next frame and thus don't have the red window. They use Bay 1 filters and accessories (except for Dia). Thank you. This is great information. I was a bit impulsive when I bought this camera a few years back, and just this summer am I putting any film through it. Knowing that it is a Bay 1, I assume this is short for Bayonet, I can probalby start searching Ebay now. I just noticed that in my manual it mentions a "close up adapter" which would be nice to find as well. It sure would be nice to get closer than 3.5 feet once in awhile.

On the angelfire.com site it mentions that..."Cable release can be used if you get a Leica adapter which screws onto the large thread around the shutter button". I think I'll start watching Ebay for this accessory too! Does anyone know if there are a multitude of Leica adapters out there? I've often thought a cable release would be a nice addition.

I believe Porter's sells a cable release just like the one you are looking for.

The close up adapters are oftern refered to as Rolleinars - or at least the Rollei ones are, which are the most common. In the Rollei series there are 3 of increasing strength. These turn up on ebay regularly - sometimes in sets (through remember you there are TWO lenses to make up each Rolleinar).

You might also want to look out for tele and wide angle lenses. These are a bit rarer, but were made by Sun.

Stuff like this is usually listed as either Rollei or Yashica - it should work fine on the Ricoh.

Yes, I've used a Rolleinar 1 (the "weakest" one) for the self-portrait posted. Although the portrait is not very flattering , I like the results obtained. Very sharp, and definitely usable. Perhaps not for portraits, but as I said, I like how some turned out.

I also have a Czech Flexaret V TLR, plus all the B&W filters and close-up lens for it, although I haven't tried the close-up lenses on that one. Also, Flexaret lens attachments do not have bayonet, but are of the simple slip-on variety.

Since you live in Coratia, you maybe able to find accesories for the Meopta flexaret cameras.
I think those are Bayonet 1 too and they had a close-up kit

cokin filters

Hi Dave,

You mentioned cokin filters, you probablt know this already but while I was thinking about it I rememebered that Cokin do a filter system called the Magne-Fix System designed for compact & digital small lens diameter systems. It may be worthwhile contacting them to see if they could fit you out with a ring for your camera & then use this system some how?
