Hi all,
I just got my first 4x5 camera (Graphlex Super Graphic) with a 135mm optar lens. I Believe the optar takes a series 6 filter but I'm looking to adapt that to a standard thread mount to take advantage of the filters I already own.

I can't find anything that adapts FROM series to any other format though, but it has been suggested to me that a 44mm thread mount is close enough to series 6, and that I can get a 44mm to whatever step up ring. Does anyone know if this will work or of any other solutions I might try?

The price of a Series VI adapter, yellow & red filter, and hood is sufficiently inexpensive that you might not want to bother with trying to figure an adapter to some other standard filter size. I bought all of the afore mentioned parts on ebay recently for about $25.

I use a 38mm push-on series 6 adapter for the Optar to a Series 6 to 7 adapter and then got a series 7 to a 52mm adapter from B&H. It doesn't wind up a long as you would think. If your only going to shoot 1 or two filters, just find series 6 and a hood.

Another thing I've done is take a Series 6 adapter, glue a 43-49 step up ring in to the Series 6 part and use 49 mm filters, hoods etc.

Thanks a lot guys. I DO have several filters, and I can't seem to find a series 6 polarizer (which I nearly always use in color film) or any infra-red filters either so I definately want to adapt to threads.

I don't mind stacking step up rings so series 6 to 7 and 7 to thread would be great, but I can find a 6 to 7 anywhere.

I may look around for a machinest, otherwise I'll try the series 6 to glue adapter. Both very simple solutions, and I'm disapointed I wasn't able to come up with them on my own.
