I just got hold of a Rolleiflex with a F=2.8 Xenotar lens. Needless to say, I will also need to get hold of a hood and set of filters for B/W works.

However, Bay III filter seems to be rather expensive. So I turn my attention to filter adapter. So far I have found BAY III to 40.5, 43, 49 and 52mm adapter.

I am leaning towards 40.5 mm, since I already have a set of good quality filters in that size. However I am worried about vignetting. 49mm are another possibility, but my filter collection in 49mm are mostly very poor quality.

Does anyone have the 40.5mm adapter and what are your experience with it? Does it vignette?

Also, I noticed the lens hood almost half of what I paid for the Rollei. Has anyone figured out a way to do a home made equivalent?

There is a pretty good quality after market lens hood that is always available on ebay for a lot less than an original Rollei hood.

I have the 49mm adapter and filters are cheap and locally available. I got it primarily to use with a polarizer since the bay 3 polarizers are so expensive.
