Interesting Rube Goldberg contraption.

I don't really see the merit in hacking a slide projector over using any other convenient light source. It looks like there are some implicit assumptions being made about a slide projector being an 'analog' device and thus being somehow better suitable for digitization of film than a more contemporary light source.

Also weird that they're using pixel shift on the camera because of the "ooooh baaaaaaad Bayer matrix yuckie yuckie!!" while they're running a slide projector with the inherent vibrations of a cooling fan etc. The latter will likely degrade image quality much more significantly than the imperceptible penalty of using that evil Bayer matrix.

Priorities? Rationality? Open a window, they're going OUT!

There is (was?) a small company in the US that was converting Kodak Carousel projectors, installing a LED light in place of the halogen lamp. It had a Nikon DX SLR and a macro lens on a bracket in front. This worked great, it would shoot a slide about every 2 seconds. Of course then a tech would take the card and do the photoshop voodoo.
My friend who ran the local shop charged $1 per slide and did pretty well. This started about 15 years ago.

I have a Nikon Coolscan V I've used to convert my Dad's old Kodachrome slides, works great.

No way these guys are going to get this to succeed.

I should have been a little less sour in my response. As a DIY project much like the shutter speed tester that has its (deservedly) long thread on this forum, it's nice. Hack a slide projector into a scanning setup. Fine by me; I can still think of easier ways to get pretty much the same (or better) quality scans using a digital camera. But it's creative, and it'll work.

Moreover, I was responding to the hack-a-projector project ('Slidescan'), but the project on their front page (Filmolino Film Scan) is a different concept. It's self-contained, has a more sensible LED light source, uses a stock RPi as the main brains - although there's still some complexity going on (e.g. frame detection) that makes this a bit of an odd in-between solution. I can sort of see what they're getting at as they're focused on reducing scan times and reducing the amount of manual labor in the scanning process. As such, it has merit, for sure.

Looks like the website is also hosted on a Raspberry Pi hooked up to a dial-up connection
