hi greg

there are 2 developers i like to use and use them for EVERYTHING i process these days ..
it is dektol, and it is caffneol c. ,,, i also put "a shake" of dektol in the caffneol C and it works great.
i tend to use expired film, i like foma too, its cheap and fun ..

I find the freestyle film edu perfectly good and about as cheap as you will find. I also like Fp4. Developer depends on the desired end result.

I have used Arista Edu 100, which I do not like.. It IS cheap. I am using expired Kodak Tri-x 320... and XTOL in a Rotary Processor that I subtract about 15% off the dev time.

I am about to make another film purchase soon for 4x5. Normally for all other formats I have been using Tri-X 400 with Xtol and then Acros 100 and do Rodinal Semi Stand Development. I am not familiar with Pyrocat-PC. I will have to look into that.

FP4+ souped in Pyrocat-HD 2:2:100 for pt/pd printing, and Delta 100 souped in F76+ for silver printing.

I've got some arista 100 I'm working through to learn to use a new camera, but it has weird lines on the non-emulsion side and they worry me.

When I shoot sheet film I usually go with HP5+, and I've enjoyed processing it in Xtol in the past, but I have none of it now so I may have to just get some D76 or the like. FP4+ in Pyrocat is pretty spectacular too.

I am curious what you disliked about the Arista.EDU 100/Fomapan100. It happens to be one of my favorite films, its a huge bonus that its so cheap. The only downside for me is the rather staggering reciprocity failure rate, I still use it in pinhole work because I like the look but would prefer Acros.

I like love acros.

I shot the EDU in 35mm and 120 and some rolls had issues. Emulsion problems, like pinholes. I still shoot it for 4x5 but was looking for alternatives.

As usual, no one answer which is great, and sounds the majority like FP4+, no wonder, it is a fantastic film, i like it and it is among one of my best or favorite films, my favorite is Acros 100 no doubt, the TMAX100 and FP4+ in LF, as developer i still didn't test to see which i can prefer, sooner or later i will.

Not that it's a necessarily enlightened choice, I'm currently using HP5 4x5 film developed in D76 1:1. I was developing in ID-11, which is an Ilford (long live Ilford), D76 look-alike. But, I thought that D76 would give me a little more umph. I like the results I've gotten with this developer.

Recently perusing Ansel Adams book, Negative, he commented to the effect that D76 is not his favorite choice for developing film.

I use just about any 4x5 film I can get that is ISO 200 or less. Right now, I have Ilford FP4 125 ISO, Arista EDU Ultra 100 ISO, and Foma Fomapan 100 ISO.

I like to use a Borax two-bath developer that I mix from individual chemicals but recently, I have been using D-76 powder at full strength.
