G'day all... for some time now I've been "lurking" in this forum - just wondering if and looking to see whether there is another or many others living in this region (Gold Coast) who are "more often than not" film user/s? Clearly "film is dead" in this part of OZ - well, if the retail offer is anything to go by but maybe they just don't get it! Yes, it would be nice to meet others to view their work & share all matters pertaining to the art and the craft of film photography. I live on the southern end of the Gold Coast - a hop, skip & jump from the M1 going north or further south. So access to my place or another's is relatively easy. My hope is that if there is enough interest we could form a group for regular showing and sharing sessions... Maintaining an interest in a vacuum is for me relatively difficult so meeting others would provide for inspiration, application and more importantly much more output! I have a small studio - well serviced and the darkroom is thus far B&W orientated. I decided to stick to the mono-course... spending all day on the computer is not an option! Lets meet and take it from there... possibly even entertain inter-state guests passing through! Look forward to hearing from you... Fred.

Welcome to APUG, Fred. I think there are a few Queenslanders on APUG. There are definitely a couple around Brisbane, and there are a few in the West, and then there are a lot in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. Hope there are some other Gold Coasters here for you to meet with.

Film aint dead, Fred!
Come and live in the Deep South where film is emphatically not dead! The beaches may be cooler, the sun hard to find, boardshorts instead of bikinis and high-rise towers non-existent, but you'll find film in abundance and lots of people to unwind on...

Kevin - thanks for the "welcome"... While not exactly bowled over by an enthusiastic response I remain, nevertheless, hopeful that there is another somewhere in Paradise, who is or is willing to "develop" an interest in the art 'n craft of Photography! I know there are thousands rushing about creating computer generated images but that is not for me! I'll stay on the look out!

A Southerly U-turn considered a Retro move?

Almost an "invitation" too hard to resist... mind you when it comes to the lifestyle environment this last summer has been typically a Southern winter! Certainly made the darkroom workplace more comfortable... At least Vanbar is looking after the enthusiast photographers and their online service is OK! Visited the local Coolangatta photo-retailer recently & found buried behind other unsaleable merchandise some Ilford chemistry!!! Mind you a dust mask would have been useful! By the way... is your entry into this year Olive Cotton Portrait Competition ready? See Murwillimbah Art Centre for entry forms! Mind you looking over recent exhibitions & competitions shown here - winning entries are of "nothing to look at"... empty rooms, empty rooms with empty chairs - no need to try too hard nor excel at the art 'n craft... just a wacky idea does it for the money bags people! I'll soldier on... take care. :whistling:
